As the first campsite was requisitioned by the War Department, the officials of the South East Lancashire Association were determined that a war and the loss of the campsite should not prevent them carrying on their work for the youth of the area, and they set about the task of securing an alternative site. This was in the New Park, but with access from Dunham Town, near the end of Oldfield lane.
